Lara was born on April 16, 1978 to Wing Commander L.K. Dutta (retired) and Jennifer Dutta. This five feet eight inch tall beauty from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh became Miss India in 2000 went on to become Miss Universe in the same year. She also became Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), in 2001.Lara has two elder sisters, one of whom is serving Indian Air Force. Lara did her schooling from Frank Anthony Public School in Bangalore and graduated in Economics from Bombay University. Lara got interested in modeling career. She won the prestigious annual Gladsrags modeling competition in India and went on to win Miss Intercontinental pageant in 1997.Lara Dutta love for modeling got her into the Hindi film industry.

Lara Dutta made her film debut with the film Andaaz in 2003. In this first movie, her commendable acting won her Filmfare Best Female Debut Award.
